Do you have a heart for volunteering? Join WorkWright Vermont!

Who is a volunteer?

WorkWright Vermont considers that a volunteer is somebody:

§ who wants to give freely of their services

§ who does not receive a wage or salary

§ who wants to contribute to the work of the organization

§ who wants to benefit from the organization or the volunteering experience

From a legal point of view, the relationship between WorkWright Vermont and the volunteer needs to be clearly understood by both parties; especially in terms of the reimbursement of expenses - that they could not be misconstrued as wages and therefore imply a contract of employment.

Induction

1)    All volunteers will receive an induction undertaken by a person delegated by the manager, appropriate to the roles and tasks expected of the volunteer.

2)    the standard Induction should be followed, with customization relevant to the specific requirements of our training site.

3)    All volunteers will receive induction into:

a)    health and safety issues

b)    responsibilities affecting their role

c)    local service procedures and general conduct

d)    sharing the organization’s values

e)    WorkWright Vermont

f)      equal opportunities statement

g)    handling confidential issues

h)    Protection procedures

It should also include introductions to employees, service users/trainees, and other volunteers, where this is appropriate.

4)    The commitment of both the organization and the volunteer will be explained as part of the induction process and a volunteer arrangement form signed.

5)    During the induction process a training program and work schedule will be discussed and agreed between the volunteer and the site manager.

6)    A written record of the induction will be retained by the service and a copy given to the volunteer.  A written record will also be kept of the volunteer’s role, the agreed expectations.
